A little late, but here is last week’s one hundred word story, based on the prompt from Julia’s Place
Monica studies Angie, smiling from one guest to another, effortlessly and at ease in her emerald-green cocktail dress, eyes sparkling, tossing her luxurious hair. Monica surveys her podgy, postpartum stomach, ineffectively concealed underneath a black, baggy tunic. Waiting for someone to speak to her, she envies Angie’s easy confidence. Angie flashes a white-toothed smile and flutters around, knowing she is creating the right impression. But beneath the surface she feels empty. She looks over at Monica, observing the room, a picture of relaxed, content motherhood. No pressure to impress. Oh, how she envies her!
